'Althea' Sewing Pattern: The A-line Skirt with an elasticated waistband and huge pockets!!

As I travel up and down the country going to various fabric shows, I am often asked about sewing patterns that are suitable for wax print fabric. The nature of wax print designs often means that extra care is required when cutting the fabric so as to ensure that the design is matching, for example, at the front side, centre back and sleeve panels. I often find that this, also known as 'pattern matching', can sometimes be harder than the actual sewing!!

As someone who is relatively new to sewing, but who has been sewing everyday since I started, I remember what it is to be a 'newbie' sewer. I wanted to create a sewing pattern that was genuinely easy and 'Althea' is that pattern. It's perfect for new sewers and with only two pattern pieces, it makes pattern matching a breeze. More experienced sewers should be able to make this skirt in about an hour or so.

'Althea' includes an integrated elasticated waistband. This creates gentle gathers at the waistline. The skirt is wider at the hem thereby forming the flattering A-line shape.  Your finished garment requires no zips, darts or fastenings.  No skirt is complete without pockets and this pattern has huge pockets!! Why not make up your pockets in contrasting fabric for added pop!

Whether you are new to sewing, new to wax prints, or both, you will soon be making up this perfect A-line skirt in all of your favourite wax print fabrics. Also, if you have often wondered what you might make up using some of the larger wax print designs, then 'Althea' is just the pattern!  It is the first in a range of sewing patterns coming soon to Dovetailed that are designed specifically for sewing with wax print fabrics.

Shop the pattern here. Available as both a paper pattern for £17.99 and a PDF pattern for £8.99.
