What do we do at Dovetailed's workshops?

Are you a sewist who's been longing to reignite your passion for sewing? Or perhaps you're a beginner eager to embark on a creative journey with that daunting needle and thread? Well, Dovetailed offers a range of workshops for you: whether it's a sewing taster session or a longer programme you require, we have something for everyone!

   -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Our sewing taster session is targeted at those who have always wanted to sew but never had the time, space or confidence or do so. You be introduced to the anatomy of a sewing machine and how to thread it, how to adjust your thread tension, stitch length and width and how to sew some of the most commonly used seams. Plus, you get to leave with samples!

Sewing patterns from Adaku Parker's sewing pattern book

Our 6-week workshops go into more detail and are slightly more intense and are best suited to a very confident beginner as it requires more than the basic sewing machine skills including being comfortable in sewing straight lines. This project is an advanced make bringing together techniques for making button bands and buttonholes such as transferring pattern markings, stitching darts correctly and making/attaching collars.

Also, fabric, thread and notions will be available to buy during the workshop at a 10% discount or you can bring your own and anyone who attends a workshop gets a 10% discount on the patterns, also available in Adaku Parker’s Sewing with African Wax Print Fabric book!
