Sewing Althea: The A-line skirt that is simple yet stylish and also leaves room for pudding!

In this guest blog post, Carol (aka @sewcasual) stitches up the Althea Aline skirt.  Carol has been sewing for a little over 5 years.  She loves to sewing for herself but she will on occasion sew for others, like her sister and close friends. She loves sewing big projects that help to push her out of her comfort zone. Carol works as a Music Royalties Specialist in her day job and works at Dovetailed London 2 days a week. Want to read on, get a cup of your favourite drink and enjoy!

'The Althea Skirt by Dovetailed London is a versatile and stylish skirt pattern that is perfect for any wardrobe. This skirt features an A - Line cut that flares out slightly, making it flow beautifully when worn, and it has a elasticated waistband and generous sized pockets.

The Althea Skirt is without doubt one of the most easiest patterns to I have made. The pattern has just 2 pattern pieces. The front and back is one pattern piece and one piece for the pockets. It isn’t my first time sewing a skirt, but the instructions were clear and easy to follow which is perfect for any novice to make. The pattern comes in a range of sizes, so it easy to choose the size that would fit you best. I made a UK size 8 which was perfect as there was more than enough ease for me in the hips.

The fabric I chose was perfect in showcasing the beautiful floral print. Great for those who love bold and vibrant prints and colours and as I was working with a cotton, it was very easy to press and finish the interior neatly.

One of the best things about the Althea Skirt is how versatile it is. It can be dressed up or down, making it perfect for any occasion. I love wearing skirts with a tucked in blouse or a bodysuit and or I can wear it on lovely warm evening for a night out, or with a t-shirt and trainers for a more casual look. The full circle cut of the skirt also means that it is perfect for twirling in, which is always a plus!

The Althea Skirt is also incredibly easy to alter. If you need to make it shorter or longer, it's a simple matter of cutting the fabric to the right length. As I am short, I like to wear my skirts at or above the knee so this is what I did to mine. As the waistband is elasticated you can alter it to be as fitted as you want. The pattern is very forgiving, making it a great choice for a first-time skirt sewist.

In conclusion, the Althea Skirt by Dovetailed London is a fantastic pattern that is easy to sew and chic to wear in a variety of different styles and fabric prints. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced sewist, I would highly recommend giving this pattern a try. You won't be disappointed!
